A proud history of delivering care and compassion

In the spring of 1982, it all began.

Rev. Barrie Gray became chairman of the Hospice Development Board that year, after he and board members including Allen and Jean Lovejoy visited fledgling hospice agencies around the country.

The small group became convinced that Lake Havasu City needed what a hospice could bring to the community, and they set out to make it a reality.

The agency was incorporated July 19, 1982 as a not-for-profit organization.

By March 1983, the first graduates of the hospice volunteer training graduated, taught by Ruth Reichel.

The first administrator of the agency, Marjorie Roff, began her work in May 1983, in office space shared with the Cooperative Ministry Counseling Center and Pregnancy Care.

Arizona licensed Hospice of Havasu in November 1983 and Medicare followed suit.

The first patient was accepted in November 1983.

Growth was steady over the years, with volunteers carrying most of the workload.

Gradually, staff, including clinical personnel, were added through the rest of the 1980s.

As the World War Two generation aged during the 1990s and early 2000s, Hospice of Havasu and other hospices around the country saw dramatic growth, in patients and families helped and in size of staff. In 2008, the family of Quinto Polidori donated land and building for the Polidori House on Bahama Avenue in Lake Havasu City. An army of local contractors donated time and supplies to complete the beautiful six-bed facility.

Today, Hospice of Havasu operates from its home office at 365 S. Lake Havasu Avenue, Lake Havasu City, and a staff office in Ft. Mohave.
