When Hospice of Havasu was founded in 1982, the purpose was simple and straight-forward:
As a not-for-profit agency, the professionals and volunteers would work hard for the patients and families, not for the bottom line.

That’s never changed. It never will.

We have grown with the community: New building, improved techniques, the latest technology, continuing staff and volunteer training.

But our real strength is pretty low-tech.

We’ve never forgotten our purpose for being. It’s about living, about making the time left matter, and dealing with the entire family in a caring and compassionate way as they face the realities of a life ending.

It’s what we do.

Some things can’t really be improved on.

WHEN YOU MAY NEED OUR HELP

When a physician gives a life-limiting diagnosis, most people want to be free of pain, surrounded by family and friends and in the comfort of their own home.

Hospice of Havasu can help those wishes become reality.

Knowing when to consider hospice care is important. If you or a loved one has been given a terminal diagnosis, or if one of more of these conditions is present, it might be time to consider Hospice of Havasu:

  • Excessive weight loss
  • Extreme changes in mood and sleep habits
  • Frequent trips to emergency room or hospital
  • Marked changes in ability to complete routine daily activities

A TEAM APPROACH

You’re never merely a number at Hospice of Havasu. We value your privacy and dignity. We want your opinion and direction.

Our care is based on a unique combination of very effective pain control techniques, quality professional medical and clinical work, all with the patient at the center of the picture.

Every patient, every family can receive any or all of the services we offer, including:

  • Continued contact with your physician
  • RN case manager, who visits regularly
  • Certified Nursing Assistants, who provide personal care
  • Social workers, who can assist with a number of patient and family needs
  • Chaplains help meet the unique emotional and spiritual needs of those facing a life-limiting illness
  • Trained Volunteers, who can provide relief for caregivers and provide other help, including delivering medications
  • Bereavement Staff, which can work with patients and families, before and after a loss

YOUR MEDICARE BENEFIT

Hospice of Havasu is fully accredited by Medicare, which means qualifying patients are entitled to Medicare benefits.

Medicare will pay for all medical services relating to the terminal illness; pay for all supplies, equipment and most medications.

The Medicare benefits also pay for the assistance of a Certified Nursing Assistant, social workers and dietary counseling.

Most private health insurance plans now include hospice benefits.

And because of an incredibly generous donor community, Hospice of Havasu has kept its promise that no one will ever be denied our full services because of an inability to pay for them.

‘If we had known what we know now, we would have
called earlier ...’

A generation from now, Virginia’s family will still remember her last months on this earth.

At Christmas, there was serious doubt if she’d be around for New Year’s.

Hospice of Havasu came to her home, and went to work, pulling no punches in helping her control pain and regain her inner strength.

She not only saw the New Year arrive, she celebrated another Fourth of July.

In that time, she had wonderful visits with her family, resumed church attendance and social activities. She cooked, played cards, laughed, shared.

She lived.

Virginia rightfully gets the credit.

But without the Hospice of Havasu professional team, her spirit would not have had the chance to shine through.

Hospice of Havasu is not about giving up.

It’s about living.
